Sunny Hallowell, PhD, APRN, PPCNP-BC


Sunny Hallowell, PhD, APRN, PPCNP-BC is an Assistant Professor at Villanova College of Nursing, Villanova University students where she strives to inspire nursing students to become expert clinicians and patient advocates through her teaching of Research, Health Policy, and Developmental Pediatrics courses. She brings to her research and teaching 20 years of clinical experience in pediatrics and perinatal care. She is nationally recognized as one of five 2021-2023 Josiah Macy Foundation Faculty Scholars, a forward-thinking group of five researchers of nurses and physicians poised to lead health care in the country. She is known for her innovative mixed-methods approach to reduce medication administration errors using a game-based, immersive virtual reality simulation. As a Macy Faculty Scholar, Dr. Hallowell will design, develop, and test Inclusive Clinical Advocacy - Responsible Education through a web-based virtual gaming simulation (ICARE-VGS) to support healthcare providers' development of clinical and communication skills to promote equity, diversity, and belonging in the communities they serve. Dr. Hallowell is passionate about Advanced Practice Nursing leadership and was honored when selected to serve a two-year term as a national Jonas Health Policy Scholar with the American Academy of Nursing. She has also served as the President of the Pennsylvania Delaware Valley Chapter of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners , and is a Senior Fellow at the Center Health Outcomes and Policy Research at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Her current research integrates her skills in health services research, workforce, health policy and health care innovation.
