Wilhelmina Manzano, MA, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN


As CNE she leads the Department of Nursing across the enterprise and sets the vision and strategic direction for the department. As COO for Perioperative Services, she provides enterprise-wide strategic leadership and oversight, sets goals and strategies for integration, alignment, and standardization, ensures optimization of both clinical and business operations, and promotes a culture of safety,


Prior to her transition to COO for Perioperative Services, Ms. Manzano also held the position of Chief Quality Officer at NYP and was responsible for quality, patient safety, performance improvement, infection prevention and control, organizational readiness and regulatory compliance. Ms. Manzano was also previously the Chief Operating Officer for NYP/Allen Hospital and prior to joining NYP in 1998, she held various leadership roles at several New York area hospitals.


Ms. Manzano is widely recognized for her transformational leadership that spans across service and academia. She founded the Center for Professional Nursing Practice at NYP to advance nursing and promote standardization and integration of best practices across the enterprise. The Center has repositioned and supported nurses to be leaders, innovators, teachers and mentors. She also sets the strategy and the direction for the journey towards Magnet® across the enterprise. She has been instrumental in the creation of many innovative programs and strategic academic and industry partnerships to meet the dynamic needs of the nursing profession.


Ms. Manzano received her BS in Nursing, MA in Nursing Administration, and Advanced Post Graduate Certificate in Human Resources from New York University. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, the Johnson & Johnson Wharton Program for Nurse Executives and the New York Academy of Medicine and holds an Advanced Nursing Executive National Board Certification.

She is a member of the American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau, and the Philippine Nurses Association of America.


Ms. Manzano’s volunteer leadership included service on the board of the Friends of the National Institute of Nursing Research (FNINR), New York University College of Nursing, Women United in Philanthropy (United Way of NY), and Lawrence Hospital.

Ms. Manzano is the current Vice President of the American Nurses Foundation Board. She served as its President from 2020-2022. She also serves on the Board of The Rogosin Institute and the Columbia University School of Nursing Board of Visitors. She also holds several adjunct appointments with various schools of nursing.

Ms. Manzano was recognized as one of Crain’s New York Notable Women in Healthcare for 2019 and listed as one of the 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives, Modern Healthcare in 2021.
